The first ranked event kicked off at Horseshoe on Sunday; the Outlaw Slopestyle. There was only a small showing of Senders at the event, as I think everyone’s legs were a little tired from hiking the jump during the HI-Standard the day before. That however did not stop Carter Wega from landing his first Frontside 900, on the way to the top spot in the Men’s Amateur category. Carter was putting down clean Frontside 720 to Backside Rodeo 5 combos, and definitely earned the top spot. Ryan Parkhurst wasn’t far behind, in third place, with some solid rail riding and a clean Cab 540 to Backside 360 combo. He was hungry for the Backside 540 but the speed was tight and he took a few slams trying to get it around. He made the decision to pull it back to the 360 and add some style to it, which paid off as he landed himself a spot on the podium.
Going into the Men’s Open category finals, the sun tucked away and the light died off, making it a little tougher to put down a solid run. The weather change did not faze Sam Koven, as he was landing Frontside 270’s on the down rail and back to back 720’s consistently over the jumps all day, earning him the Second place spot overall. Liam Brearley and Cameron Spalding deserve an honourable mention as they were turning heads with their rail lines, qualifying first and third respectively. Liam put down a clean Backside 270 on 270 off and linked that to a Cab 270 on 270 off during practice, although was unable to put them together in the finals. Cameron had a solid Frontside 270 locked into the big down rail, however, he tried to connect a Cab 270 bring back on the rail before and couldn’t quite keep it together. All in, a great showing by our team members who were present at the event. Thanks to Horseshoe Resort for putting it on!
