It's been a hard couple of weeks around Ontario resorts with big melts and some sugar on ice. Blue's done well to rebuild a jump line during that time and get things ready for today's Badlands Slopestyle. The whole crew got straight into send mode after a few speed checking runs, with Carter Wega taking a very scary fall early on, but bouncing back to find his feet again during the event.
The best of 3 run format with no finals for the Open category, saw young senders Cam Spalding, Liam Brearley and Will Buffey stepping well up out of their age categories to enter open and chase a few CRL points. Open category riders were up first with the boys smashing out some runs and putting up some scores that would take them to 5, 4, 3, 1 at the end of the day. Liam, Cam, Sam and Will put down a battle royale on the course and almost pulled off a clean sweep, Will dropping some backside 1080's to take the win over Cam's and Liam's Cab Underflip to 7 combos and Sam Koven's back to back 7 combos.
The Am category came after Lunch and also got heated with Taylor Estrop dropping some big Wildcats and back 7's, unfortunately coming unstuck but riding very well and putting on a show. Joel Graham was the only rider to spin on to the Cannon Rail and Ryan Parkhurst went to the moon or the spoon on his backside 720 to pull off the win, flanked by Carter in 2nd and Joel in 3rd for the team Sweep!
Thank you to Blue Mountain, Brad Howell, Mike Towers, Erika Langman, the Park Crew and all the judges for grinding out a fun day at the local. Next week it's on to Beaver Valley for the Burton Rail Qualifiers, with the hopes of some new snow to freshen things up this week.
