Ontario Provincial Championships

March 18, 2019

The 2019 Ontario Provincial Championships at Mount St Louis was the best to date, setting a record breaking number of Senders riders in the Slopestyle  event, with almost every rider on the team competing. All the hard work, training, goal setting and preparing paid off as the team performed amazingly across all three categories.

Day 1 – Halfpipe

Saturday was the Halfpipe event with former team rider and World Cup Halfpipe rider Kiran Pershad making the trip home to hang with his fellow Senders and compete. The kids enjoyed watching Kiran put on a show, as he got some training time in with his old coach and current Senders coach Kevin Scriver. Unfortunately for Kiran, he did not quite hold onto his run in Finals, but it was great having him there to encourage the younger riders and ride with the team. The other Senders put down some great runs, finding themselves multiple podium positions. The event was well organized and flew by, giving the riders enough time to get on the slope course after the Halfpipe event and practice their runs for slopestyle the next day.

Day 2 - Slopestyle

With Grom, Amateur and Open women’s categories being held on the riders right line in the Outback, there were lots of options for creative runs. For Am and Open Ladies, this was home base and they were ready to perform. For the Groms, some of these features were larger than they have ever hit before. That did not stop The Senders Groms from stepping up to the challenge! Even some of our Beginner Program riders hit the jump line, with 5 year old Jack Davidson competing in his first Slopestyle event ever! Having never hit a jump of this size before, Jack charged the jumps with help from coach Kieran Pink and put together an amazing run in the company of many of his teammates

Men’s Open was held on the main jump line in the Outback featuring 50’ jumps and pro size rail features. With the amount of progression made this year by our athletes, the level of riding was at an all time high for an Ontario Provincial event. Seeing 1080s, switch 900’s, double corks, and rail combinations that are too long to name, it was quite the head turning competition.

In the end it was an Open Senders podium sweep for both Male and Female divisions. In the Boys AM category, The Senders secured the 2nd and 3rd spot, with Grom boys and Grom girls sweeping the podium as well.
